Jec Ballou has written a Masterpiece work which is a cummulation of her studies, experience, equine knowledge, and love and respect for this wonderful animal. This book is a must for anyone, from beginner to experienced level, and will assist greatly in achieving a balanced, healthy horse who enjoys his/her work, and will enjoy years of soundness and athletic performance that can only come from a proper foundation. I found that the way she has written the book, the application of her program can be implemented at any stage, whether you are just starting a youngster, want to purify the movements of your horse, or keep your senior companion sound and willing. The pull out cards that you can take with you while working are great, too. I want to buy a second one just to save for my library.

Great breakdown of how and why the exercises are important. I am a certified equine massage therapist and this is a great addition to my knowledge block.

Hello! I attended three of your clinics at the Midwest Horse Fair in Madison Wisconsin this past Spring. I enjoyed each clinic and all the great training information you presented. Unlike most trainers I have listened to, you not only presented fun tasks but provided the scientific research and evidence of why to do the task, not just how.

As a result I bought your training book (which I never do) and have been consistently using many of the activities to challenge me and my horse. Both his owner and I have noticed a marked improvement in transitions, collection and lightness at all gaits.

I especially enjoy the Schauchel (spelling?) trot and backing up. I do keep the book at the barn and mix things up by just letting it open where it may.

Thanks again for all your research and fun activities. I hope to see you again at the Midwest Horse Fair.

I found this book was easy to read- big ideas are explained in easy to understand ways. I read the whole thing thru in a weekend but then went back over the next weeks and focused on the chapters that I needed. The exercises for stifles were great. Things like walking over poles and hay bales seem simple, but have made an incredible difference. My horse is tracking up so much better and engaging his hind quarter so much better. I have also been doing the stretching exercises regularly and have noticed my horse seems more relaxed and less sore. I highly recommend this book to any horse person.
